Anchored — Grief, Bereavement and Loss
"SLP for the Helping Professions — grounded in theory, rooted in the South African context."
About Anchored — Grief, Bereavement and Loss
Loss is one of the most constant realities of human experience — and one of the least adequately prepared for in professional training. Helping professionals encounter grief in every field they work in: in consultation rooms, in classrooms, in offices, in places of worship, and in communities that carry the accumulated weight of loss across generations. Yet most professionals receive little more than a passing introduction to grief theory, and almost none are equipped for the specific grief landscape of South Africa — a society shaped by extraordinary diversity, by the legacy of apartheid, by the HIV and AIDS epidemic, by violent crime, and by the structural grief of poverty and inequality.
Anchored is a Short Learning Programme (SLP) designed to change that. It provides helping professionals with a rigorous, contextually grounded, and practically oriented foundation in grief theory and practice — one that takes both the universal dimensions of grief and the specific realities of the South African context seriously.
